Grovelands Primary School

Safeguarding

Grovelands Primary School recognises its responsibilities for and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and requires all staff, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment in line with Section 175 of the 2002 Education Act and under the Children Act 2004, the DfE Working Together To Safeguard Children guidance and the Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021 documentation.

This includes checking the suitability of all staff and volunteers; ensuring that we have effective procedures for identifying and managing all issues likely to cause significant harm to children; ensuring a safe environment in which our pupils can learn and develop; enabling our pupils to acquire the relevant knowledge and information; and working with other agencies as appropriate.

Should you have and concerns with regards to safeguarding at Grovelands Primary school then you can contact DSL@grovelands.surrey.sch.uk

The school has taken the opportunity to join the Operation Encompass scheme which will run jointly between local schools, Surrey Police and Surrey County Council.

Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting on any domestic incidents that occur outside of school and might have an impact on a child in school.

Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school teaching staff, named a 'Key Adult' or "Deputy Key Adult", is informed the next morning that there has been a domestic incident or if a child has been reported as missing.

This means that the Key Adult or Deputy Key Adult can ensure that the child is supported whilst they are in school.

We are keen to offer the best support possible for our pupils and we believe this is going to be extremely beneficial for all those involved.

Tips to help keep children safe on the internet and social networks

Talking to your child is one of the best ways to keep them safe. You can also use parental controls on social networks, online games and browsers and on both hardware and software that can filter or monitor what your child can see. Below you can find a downloadable digital parenting magazine which can give parents advice on online bullying and how to keep you and your children safe online.

Preventing your children from using the internet or mobile phones won't keep them safe in the long run, so it's important to have conversations that help your child understand how to stay safe and what to do if they ever feel scared or uncomfortable.
